Anyone who has a front loading washer may want to read this link. Todd and I purchased the Whirlpool Duet when we moved into this house and I have noticed sometimes it smells musty. I found this website and post #13 is very informative. I also learned to leave the washer door open in between washings so that it can dry out (embarrassed to say that I never thought of this).

I learned when a drain is smells to pour 1/2 c baking soda down it then 1 cup vinegar. Let it bubble and put a 2 qt pot on to boil. When it is boiling then dump down drain. Voila! No more smell. I did it and it worked, so I thought it may be useful to someone else.
They say if dishwasher is smelly then run empty load with baking soda in tray for detergent and 2 qts of vinegar in bottom. Haven't done this, but thought it may come in handy some day.
