Playing

Since Christmas we have had a lot of new toys and games to play with. Mason and Avery have been playing with balls that sing and roll, baseball, letters in the bath, Lego's, basketball, brain games (a birdhouse that certain shapes and colors fit into their correct places and flashcards), listening and dancing to new songs, reading new books, and wearing new clothes. So much fun! Avery is getting to be quite the little ball thrower and Mason is getting to be quite the little builder. Avery is also able to put the baseballs where they go in the machine and likes to put them in the bathtub. Mason likes to throw them in the air.

Mason got some paints for Christmas. It was funny because he came in to tell Todd and I that his hands were dirty one night (dinner time is especially hectic and I needed Todd's help so we left the children alone for awhile. They seemed to be playing so good and nice, boy were we fooled). At first I couldn't figure out what they he had on his hands then I realized it was orange paint. I washed it off his hands and Todd ran into the room to assess the damage. As I was scrubbing the bright orange paint off the carpet I was asking Mason leading questions like, "What happened? How did the paint get on the carpet? Why did this happen?" He kept responding, "Don't play with paint. Make a mess, Mommy, clean up the mess. We don't play with paint." Later when Todd and I watched the tape we got a much better picture of what happened. Mason had gotten the paint canister off his dresser and opened the lid of one. He then closed the lid (not well like an adult would do, but more so set it on the canister) then he opened another one (the orange one). He dropped the lid and that is what he got on his hands. He put them both back in the box and left the room. Then for the good stuff - the minute that Mason left the room, Here comes Avery (curious how before Mason left she was playing with toys on the floor and never once looked at what he was doing) she walks quickly over to the paint and picks it up and starts to shake the box violently. This is when the bright orange paint gets all over the carpet. Now, I guess I know why Mason couldn't answer any of my questions. But now that I know they are a dangerous team I will watch them very closely, especially that cute little one.

Little Ones

"Mason funny" is what Mason said when he looked at this picture.

Mason holding Avery for a picture. He told her hold still and look at camera. "Winnebago" (a phrase I taught Mason because I thought it would make him look at the camera because he hadn't heard it before.

  1. So were you guys cracking up watching the Paint tape or what? (Although I am sure the cleaning up part wasn't funny at all). It must be funny to watch the little ones when they don't know they are being watched! It's been fun to keep up with your family via blog!
